Is it mandatory? Or is it just recommended? The reason I ask is because I read about the Edge Transport Service role, and it has some requirements I am unfamiliar with and am not sure that I can accommodate. For example, it must be installed on the perimeter network -- in the DMZ separate from our regular network. I do not think our network has such a configuration. Furthermore, because this must be installed on a separate machine (something I did not foresee), does not this mean that I also need a second license for Exchange Server? I certainly hope not. We bought another server just for Exchange Server; however, it is seeming like the computer that is running the Edge Transport Service is the one that will be bearing the brunt of the traffic (filtering out the spam, virus checking, etc), so would you recommend that we use the new server for the ETS?
If anybody has some advice concerning my dilema with Edge Transport Service, please let me know.
Thanks,
Riven
